Different question on chanting

This, I think, applies to every chant and not necessarily any mantras associated with Sarvamnaya. I read in different places and books about chanting (doesn't matter what mantra as far as I can tell) these 1000, 10,000, 100,000 times. I believe I read it correctly that these are the numbers. That being said, I have also read that chanting out loud, mentally verbally, mentally visually are "worth" more or less depending on the action. Less for out loud and more for mentally verbally and even more for mentally visually. Is this the case, have I misinterpreted something on my readings? Thanks in advance

Does it count as puruscharana if I chant the mantra while walking, chopping vegetables, etc? I'm asking seriously... like not counting, but repeating to stay connected?
