Seeing waveforms and blue/violet lights while meditating

Hey, so I am completely new to meditation and japa (repetition). I remember some while ago I was doing the japa of the panchakshar mantra (namah shivaya) and I did that for a week or so and I also did that while meditating. As usual I was watching that black screen when you close your eyes. I started to see sudden radial waveforms from the centre and then suddenly within the centre arose a blue light a very small spec of it and it expanded and then contracted and then expanded and then contracted until it turned violet. I didn't meditate for a long time from then but now whenever I close my eyes and focus on my on my breath I still see that contracting and expanding violet light. What could this be? Is it what they say, "seeing sounds"? Has anybody here experienced this? I will love to see your insights.

Namah Shivāya 🙏

Yes, I’ve had this. Theravada Buddhists (ie Ajahn Brahm) call this Nimitta, a sign of entering jhana (dhyana). https://www.yogapedia.com/definition/5712/nimitta
